Most academic subjects have a philosophy, for example the philosophy of science, the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of logic, the philosophy of law, and the philosophy of history. In addition, a range of academic subjects have emerged to deal with areas which would have historically been the subject of philosophy. These include psychology, anthropology and science.

How did ancient philosophers earn their lving?
Q. I mean i know Plato and Aristotle are recognised as great Philosophers today but how did they actually earn their living when they were alive, did people actually employ them just to think?
Asked by The Crawling Chaos - Tue Mar 25 04:57:25 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They were often employed by Royalty/nobility/kings etc as advisors. Philosophers back then were also scientists, mathmeticians astronomers etc, so they were basically hired as consultants. Also, philosophers were literate which was a rare thing.

How is a disagreement different then how philosophers describe an argument?
Q. How is a disagreement different then how philosophers describe an argument? I am have trouble with defining how philosophers describe an argument. Can someone help me, maybe even with an example?
Asked by Steve - Tue Apr 14 22:08:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A proper argument is two or more people with different perspectives trying to reach a consensus of opinion. A disagreement is two or more people trying to force others into conceding that they are correct while everyone else is incorrect. For example if you say black, and I say white, we are having an argument if we agree on grey. We are having a disagreement if you persist on insisting black is correct while I know for certain that it can only be white. I hope this helps.
