What are your favorite aspects of Augustine's Metaphysics? I need to narrow my focus for my term paper!?
Q. So far I'm intrigued by his theories on cosmology, especially when he talks about time. I'm also of the mind that researching his ideas about the soul and the three types of evil would be interesting. Any ideas? Specific questions you have that my semester of research might possibly answer? This is like asking an astronomy question and being told to check my horoscope.

A. If you can provide evidence that passes testing for astrology or blood type stereotyping, a million bucks is waiting for you. Truth is both are bigoted concepts. No one has control over when they are born or what blood type they inherited. This is bigotry akin to sexism and racism. Surely no statistical evidence for this. Please link up results of these "studies". We want real information, not speculation.

I don't understand clearly his explanation of WHY physics is a theoretical science. Spiritual significance of shifting eye colors?
Q. I'm not talking about the change as one get's older. I'm talking about the seemingly random shift of dominant eye color as well as obvious iridescence. I know the iris is naturally iridescent, but it's not always noticeable. Mine change all the time. The shift goes from brown, to green, to hazel, sometimes grayish bluish green, and sometimes there's reds and yellows mixed in there along with whatever color decides to be dominant at the time. Other times my eye color is very non-human (feline, canine, etc). My usual, official color is brown. Anyone know of any type of spiritual significance to it? And if you're not all that spiritual or interested in metaphysics, do you know of a biological explanation? I'm interested. Really. And it's… [cont.]

What do you think about so many getting their first taste of philosophy through Plato?
Q. Plato was the first philosopher I was introduced to through a college 101 type philosophy course many years back. While the Socratic (dialectic) method left a deep inpression on me, Plato's philosophy itself (especially his metaphysics and epistemology) was difficult for me to comprehend, and what I could comprehend of it left me feeling unconvinced and with a vague sense that something was amiss with it (though I lacked the tools to define exactly what I disagreed with about it and why). I ended the course feeling that philosophy was either beyond my grasp or too far removed from the "real" world to be useful. I can't remember what it's called!?
Q. I'm very curious about the science that Shirley Maclaine consults when she's hurt. I thought it was called metaphysics, but I can't find the info I'm looking for. When reading some of her books, I recall that when she would get hurt (let's say she fell while dancing and hurt her ankle), she would call a friend of hers to find out what it meant (i.e. she's not standing tall enough...or another example, if you hurt your back, you're being spineless about something). Does anyone know what I'm talking about or where I could find this type of information?

A. Do what you do, kiddo. As long as you don't try to legislate your religion into the law of the land, or use it to defend hate crimes -- I'm cool with it. .

Q. Or try to deny me my beliefs by telling me they are wrong? I get this from several different types of people- Christians, Atheists, Muslims, etc. I believe in animism. I think everything is part of a larger soul .I think rocks have an essance of spirit. I think different animals are spiritual in their own ways. I believe in being connected with Nature. Christians tell me I am going to Hell unless I give up my pagan ways for their ways. Atheists tell me I am delusional for believing in any metaphysics(although I can't see how I'm hurting anybody. Do you find this interesting?
Q. Boredom has been defined by C. D. Fisher in terms of its central psychological processes: an unpleasant, transient affective state in which the individual feels a pervasive lack of interest in and difficulty concentrating on the current activity. [4] M. R. Leary and others describe boredom as an affective experience associated with cognitive attentional processes. [5] In positive psychology, anxiety is described as a response to a moderate challenge for which the subject has more than enough skill.[3]. These definitions make it clear that boredom arises not from a lack of things to do but from the inability to latch onto any specific activity. There are three types of boredom, all of which involve problems of engagement of attention.… [cont.]

Why do bookstores not carry these books?
Q. There are many nonfiction books about Halloween that were written for adults, but the only ones I can ever find in any bookstore are the kind that end up in the New Age or metaphysics section, and even then there are never more than one or two. All of the titles that cover folklore, history, mythology, traditions, crafts, collectibles, how to organize a party, etc, etc. are nowhere to be found. Is there simply no demand for these types of Halloween books? Are bookstore owners unaware of their existence? If there are any bookstore managers/owners on here I would really appreciate your feedback! The seasonal aspect occured to me, and that is a good point, but I rarely find nonfiction for adults during the Halloween season either. So I… [cont.]

A. Who spends forty bucks on a book about Halloween? The ones for decorating are in and out of fashion quickly, they buy whoever is the new decorating guru for that year. These books don't have the shelf life of cheese. The ones on collectibles are very market specific, be honest, how many people come into a book store in a year who have a passion for Halloween collectibles? I just don't see the demand for one holiday books, of the light coffee table variety. There is a window of four weeks, tops, to sell these books every year.

What type of Doctor will I become?
Q. I know no one can answer this question but I was wondering what type of doctors conduct the most research what physician specialty is relatively new enough for breakthroughs and isnt already set in its ways? I am majoring in Philosophy as an undergrad and my interest are in Metaphysics and epistemology... The one medical specialty that interest me the most is Clinical and Anatomical Pathology. I cannot see myself dealing with dead people as a forensic pathologist however I can see myself working to find cures and helping diagnos certain diseases. please. I am open to any suggestions that are not the usual rant, or insult from the children of this website. Thank you in advance!
