Q. my septic system's leaching field seems to be failing. i've got a consistent puddle where the leaching field is located. i've had the tank pumped and added several products which promise to fix the problem but they haven't helped. the system is ~22 years old. i don't want to have to incur the cost of replacing the existing system if there is an alternative. It is a waste of your money to buy the bacterial products you find in the hardware store. That is the reason that septic tanks should be pumped out on a regular schedule of yearly or every two years.to three years. The only solution is have a backhoe/excavator dig it all up and create a new leach bed.
