A. if the function of platelts is normall, you can live normally with a count about 5000. there is not a drug to increase the plt count, but drugs can cause the plt count drop. so consult her doctor she may need platelet transfusion. hope your mother gets well soon.

A. thrombocytopenia is the medical term for a low blood platelet count. Platelets (thrombocytes) are colorless blood cells that play an important role in blood clotting. They stop blood loss by clumping together and forming plugs in blood vessel holes. If for any reason your blood platelet count falls below normal, this is called thrombocytopenia. It often occurs as a result of a separate disorder, such as leukemia or an immune system malfunction, or as a medication side effect. Complications may range from none to severe bleeding. Thrombocytopenia usually improves by treating the underlying cause. Sometimes, medications or surgery can help treat chronic thrombocytopenia. If bleeding is severe, you may need a blood or even a platelet… [cont.]

A. lakhs are not medical units of measurement, platelets are measured in numbers per milliliters, if you can find how many lakhs are in a milliliter, then ask your question in that form and I can help you.

high white blood cell count, high platelet count what could that mean?
Q. my husband has a gradual increase in his white cell count and in his platelet count what could that possibly indicate? he is going to see a hematologist this week for this but, i kind of wanting a heads up. thank you for all your suggestions

A. It could mean an infection, cancer (not to scare you), leukemia, either way his body is producing more white blood cells because it has a battle on it's hands somewhere, be it small or large. That is what they are going to determine when he goes to see them. Probably nothing serious it's just the worst case senerio. It could just mean he has bronchitis, or an on going sinus infection.

My friend is 15 with ITP doctors can't do any more. What should I do? Anything that he can take naturally?
Q. He is going to be released from the hospital after spending 11 days in the hospital. He has ITP they gave him 3 treatments 5 blood transfusions, and steriods and his platelet count is only 6000. Is there any natural herbs or anything on the market that can increase platelet count and help his ITP. He has been released on Hospis (sp) and he is about to die. Any help?
Asked by illicticnarcotic - Wed Oct 10 14:52:28 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well, forget about herbs. The question is rather whether there really isn't anything 'hard-core' that can be done. There is a very new study on combination treatment of ITP that does not respond to conventional therapy; they report decent success rates. I include the reference below. I obviously don't know whether something along those lines has already been tried in your friend's case; it might be worthwhile to contact the authors of that study. Good luck, M.

Q. How to increase RBC and platelet counts ?
Asked by nitikaa s - Sun Mar 11 04:05:25 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. RBC are red blood cells with a life span of around 120 days,The importance of them is that they carry Hemoglobin & hb is carrier for oxygen. Total count of RBc are in range of 4-5 mill /cubic ml . ( more than this is not normal & is lebelled as polycythemia ) The RBC Reduction lead to anemia. to increase ur RBC & Hb one shud eat lots of green leafy vegitables & fruits rich in iron like mango ,papya, spinach ,apple etc.Platelet r not directly related with eating habits ,They are produced on intrensic body functions & apart from if one is suffering from low platelet count like in thromoccyopenia no need to increase the normal platelet count present in blood.

what can be the reason for low platelet count?
Q. my cousin is being induced today due to it. i have read in my text books it can be caused by increased exposure to ionising radiation or cancers such as leukemia. it is not due to this in her case so is it just as she is pregnant or could it be down to something else? i havent really spoke to her much about it as she has moved so i don't see her as often x

A. could be due to Anaemia in pregnancy caused by low iron levels I had this...not to leukima also but something similar they were gunna give me a small bone marrow transplant if my platelets didnt increase but luckily they did as I was taking iron supplements and had 3 blood transplants to get my platelet and iron levels up Good diet usually helps, red meat green veg.Liver and brocolli are excellent. I bet a couple of weeks after pregnancy she'll be right as rain. It just sounds like mine-Anaemia brought on by pregnancy. Good Luck to her and congrats to her on the little bubba. xx

Peridon C 500 mg Iron tablets vitamin E calcium vitamin D and vitamin B 12 shot once a month. This is what a lot of us women call our breast cancer chemo cocktail because it helps us feel better. and helps with our cell counts. So try this or ask you doctor for something to help you. I am not big on vitamins but I know this helps. most people who try to get others to take certain vitamins are not reliable but the doctor put me on these than while chatting with other women there doctors put them on the same as my doctor did. A. It sounds like she probably has ITP,idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. This is treated using oral steroids, usually prednisolone. The dose is gradually reduced to the minimum required to suppress the auto-immune disease. Most patients can eventually have their steroids further reduced and eventually stopped all together. The red dots might be petechiae rom the low platelets,or I suppose you might be describing stria from the steroids.

High platelet count?
Q. I recently had a blood test which showed my platelet count as high. A 2nd recent test showed it had increased again to 730,000. I have been referred to a haematologist. What is the likliest explanation?
Asked by yorkshirecath2004 - Wed Dec 6 11:47:30 2006 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments
A. There are two reasons: 1) Your bone marrow is producing more platelets than it should 2) Your spleen is not removing as many platelets as it should Either one could be the reason but only your haematologist will be able to tell you why your PLT count is so high. They will want to treat it so as to remove risk of unnecessary blood clotting as it is the platelets that stem bleeding when you have an injury. And the normal range for platelets is around 150 million and 450 million per ml of blood.

can stress increase platelets from 50,000 to 102,000 in 72 hours ?
Q. My mother was diagnosed with ITP several months ago and is scheduled to have a spleenectomy, her pre-op blood work shows a doubling of platelets from a count taken earlier this week. The Doctor said the increase was from stress. I just want to be assured this is true and a spleenectomy is still warranted.

Is there a way to increase the amount of blood platelets naturally?
Q. Well, i know a guy who has hepatitis c and to get medication for it (or maybe the medication was for something else, ill need to ask him, but that doesn't matter here) he needs to increase his amount of blood platelets so that he can take it because the medication lowers the platelet count and his is already lower than it should be. is there a natural remedy to raise blood platelet count? maybe an herb or vitamin that does it? the doctors refuse to tell him anything that might help that isnt a $4000 bottle of pills that his insurance wont cover.
