In professional sports, a salary cap is a limit on the amount of money a team can spend on player salaries. The limit exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both. Several sports leagues have implemented salary caps, both as a method of keeping overall costs down, and to ensure parity between teams so a wealthy team cannot entrench dominance by signing many more top players than their rivals. All I know about this is that most articles about speculation on player posturing seems to imply that the GMs are looking at how to hold on to players for one more year and then it is a free for all with lots of money and 2 hummers in each garage. Is the salary cap being removed permanently the year after next? Why? Where is more info? Actually, I am talking about this (for one) Gnab - cool. Do you (or anyone else) have a guess at the likelyhood/unlikelyhood of this happening. Is it probably that there will be a cap free 2010? The salary cap provision expires in 2010, and the CBA itself ends in 2011. The owners and the players' union are trying to get something done to prevent all of this from happening, because if they don't, there could very well be a lockout in 2011. A capless season would SEEM great for teams with deep pockets, like the Cowboys, but what happens when or if a cap gets reinstated? Then the teams that went on a spending spree are in big trouble, and they'd have to start restructuring contracts or unloading players in a fire sale. So it's definitely in the best interest of the league to NOT let a capless season happen.
