From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A Society or a human society is a group of people related to each other through persistent relations such as social status, roles and social networks. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Without an article, the term refers either to the entirety of humanity or a contextually implicit subset. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Like other groupings, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone. independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of constituent individuals; it may act to oppress. The urbanization and rationalization inherent in some, particularly Western capitalist, societies, has been associated with feelings of isolation and social "anomie". More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by Stanley - Fri Jan 16 09:41:52 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'd really need your definition of society. Well first, I don't think 'evil' exists. Secondly, in terms of society being civilization, nature can bring out what one might conceive to be the worst too. Ever seen a hungry lion's interaction with an antelope? Not very pretty, but very natural though. It is common knowledge that eating another living person, is a bad or wrong thing. My main point is that like nature, society can seem a bad thing but it also has it's perks. Also, society is driven and maintained by nature, they're not very far apart, in my opinion. (Now, concerning bombs and guns not being natural, they're just tools too commonly available for all the people that don't know how to act civilized but I don't think they should be… [cont.] Answered by The Confounded Gypsy - Fri Jan 16 10:18:39 2009 How did American society change between the American revolution and the Civil war? Q. How did American society change between the American Revolution and the Civil War? How did changing patterns of settlement, population, economy, and culture reshape the character of Americans' lives in the north, south, east, and west? Asked by jessica - Thu May 6 09:43:36 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, times were very different, the middle class was growing and becoming more important. When the Revolutionary War happened, the rich landowners ran everything, it was not much different from England, except there were no noble titles. As the population moved west, American individualism took hold. People were more independent or just relied on their families than the community, though small towns continued to be important. The debate about slavery raged on. Many in the North were against slavery, others did not care one way or the other. Some churches were opposed, some said the Bible condoned slavery (much as debates on abortion, homosexuality and other issues are handled differently today by different churches) Education was… [cont.] Answered by Rubym - Thu May 6 10:11:30 2010 How did the democratic society during the Jacksonian era affect the political culture?
